40 Years of Second Chance Animal Rescue

In 2019 it will be 40 years since Second Chance first opened its doors to unwanted, abandoned, stray and needy animals.

Sue and George Long, both sadly no longer with us, started the rescue in September 1979 and their son Tony is our present chairperson.

Many thousands of animals have passed through our doors to have a second chance at finding their forever homes since then.

We want to celebrate 2019 with our supporters by taking on as many (at least 40) fundraising events as we can possibly fit in. So 2019 is promising to be a very exciting year and we would love to invite our supporters to help by finding ways to fundraise for us. Our aim is to raise money for a new roof covering over our outside cattery area and some much needed repairs to our isolation. Hopefully together we can achieve this.
If you have any ideas or want to volunteer as a fund-raiser please let us know. Any events will be advertised on our Facebook and website, plus forthcoming newsletters (you may have already seen the events for our two dog walks in January). A list of the events we have arranged so far can be found under Events on our website.

We are so thankful for all the support and help we have received in the last 40 years - we couldn’t have have done it with out you all!!🐶🐱

A BIG, BIG, BIG THANK YOU TO PETS AT HOME AND TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS!!
Earlier in the year, Pets at Home ran a competition asking people to vote for their favorite animal charity and thanks to all our supporters, we were voted best in the area!!
We would like to thank everyone who voted for us, it is truly wonderful to know we have the support of so many people who, like us, care so passionately for the welfare of all the amazing animals that need our help.
We would also like to thank Pets at Home, firstly for hosting the competition and secondly for their very generous prizes. An in-store voucher will be a massive boost for us and will ensure the cats and dogs that come into our care over the coming months will not go hungry. We also received a cheque which will make such a huge difference. The money has been shared equally between Second Chance Southampton and Second Chance - Portsmouth Cats
A long overdue new boiler will now be installed at Southampton ensuring the central heating to all the kennels and both the catteries will work perfectly, guaranteeing every cat and dog warmth and comfort this winter.
At Portsmouth, the money has already been spent. We no longer have to feel embarrassed as we walk through the door of our long suffering vets, as it is the first time this year we have been out of debt with them. At least, for a few weeks.
Once again, thank you to Pets at Home and to all our supporters xx

Feral cats in their new home
2 of our feral cats went to their amazing new home on Tuesday 5th June with JB Gill, from the boyband JLS, and his family on their farm.
We were so happy to meet them - such a lovely family and we are sure River and Tia will have a fantastic life with them!!
